The Brunswick Housing Authority Commission says it should be able to award the 60 Section 8 housing vouchers requested by Hand in Hand of Glynn County for a tiny home village for the homeless, but it’s not as cut and dry as simply handing them over.
Hand in Hand of Glynn will hold a community open house Sunday to give the public an opportunity to tour the tiny home village.
Anne Stembler, founder of the nonprofit organization, said 43 of the 60 planned tiny homes are totally furnished and ready for occupation by the homeless.
Organizers have requested 60 vouchers from the state and are expecting an answer by the end of December.
BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The new tiny home village in Brunswick, Georgia is almost ready for occupants, and it comes at a time when it’s tough to find affordable housing.
Hand in Hand of Glynn will provide shelter, nourishment and a sense of community for the city’s homeless population on the small piece of land. It’s the first of its kind in Glynn County.
Work is ongoing at a tiny home village that will be occupied by 60 homeless people.
Linda Heagy, treasurer of Hand-in-Hand of Glynn, Inc., the nonprofit organization that is building the housing complex, said the first residents on the waiting list could be living in the new furnished homes within a month if the city can get the vouchers so the homes can be occupied.
